Shinji Mikami’s (Resident Evil) excellent Dino Crisis is finally ready to return after more than 20 years of absence? A request from Capcom could reveal the publisher’s plans.
In 1996, Shinji Mikami established himself in the video game landscape with Resident Evil. An absolutely iconic survival horror for several reasons. And yes, the cheesy intro is one of them. The Japanese developer is also known for bringing Dino Crisis to the market immediately. A game where elite soldiers land on an island after riots break out in a scientific center hidden on an island. There they don’t encounter zombies, but rather dinosaurs that are intent on devouring the agents. When RE meets Jurassic Park.
A new Dino Crisis game in development? It depends on…
If the two suites are largely dispensable, Dino crisis is one of those games from our childhood that we would like to see again, and yours is certainly not an isolated case. The name of the franchise regularly comes up in player discussions, but nothing happens. However, after the enormous success of Resident Evil 2 (2019) and Resident Evil 4 Remake, such a comeback no longer seems so unthinkable. And even less so with this ongoing Capcom survey.
Through Capcom Super Elections, which asks 10 questions of the publisher’s fans, players can vote for the licenses they want to revisit as part of a sequel or new game. Among the franchises there is Resident Evil (what a surprise!), Ace Attorney, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry or even… Dino Crisis! Just the sight of the name comforts our little hearts.
So when is the new Dino Crisis game coming out? There is no point in getting carried away too quickly, because the enthusiasm may not be enough and the saga would then be doomed to failure. In any case, it’s a little encouraging to see Dino Crisis on the list of dormant franchises that the company could one day revive. Well, now we want the same thing but with Rival Schools…
The alternatives Deathground and Jurassic Park Survival
We’re keeping our fingers crossed (very hard) for Dino Crisis to return, but spiritual successors like Jurassic Park Survival are now waiting in the wings. A game announced in 2023 and already on our wish list. According to journalist Jeff Grubb, it will be very close to a survival horror, citing Alien Isolation as a reference. Enough to increase the hype around a still very discreet title. Then there is Deathground, also inspired by the Baby of Creative Assembly and Dino Crisis, but in a production that can be played in co-op mode or alone and in which the dinosaurs are supposed to play pranks. “Dynamic and reactive dinosaurs that stalk you, influence your decisions and provide a tailored experience” said studio Jaw Drop Games.
