The Quarry’s director is already working on another project that’s apparently not an episode of The Dark Pictures Anthology. It’s going to be a massive title that opens up another horror subgenre.
Will Byles, director of Until Dawn and The Quarry, is already thinking about Supermassive Games’ next title, which should take a different direction while still remaining familiar.
After The Quarry, done with teen horror?
Through an interview with VGC, Will Byles tells us a bit about After The Quarry. And it should be interesting. First, it will be a game of equal scope and horror… but with a nuance. According to the director With the teen horror subgenre, the studio seems to have come to the end of its ideas
We’ve started work on the next game, I can’t really tell you much about it, but we’ve started. It’s going to be the same kind of horror game we’re passionate about. It will be a title on the same scale as The Quarry…and that’s all I can tell you without giving too much away.
I don’t know how far we can push teen horror because after a while the surprises are limited. The Dark Pictures Anthology explores hundreds of variations on horror. What we want to do now, and I can’t say exactly, is move away from that kind of standard. But overall it’s still classic horror.
.
An exit window for this new baby? In 2025 or 2026, which leaves time for the release of future Dark Pictures. Expected on November 18, 2022, The Devil in Me will innovate with a more varied formula.
Hollywood actors for the project?
It is possible, but not everyone. Will Byles gives this as an example Tom cruise
Still, the director believes that more and more actors will be inclined to pass video game auditions. Also, Supermassive Games didn’t think David would accept Arquette:
We thought we’d never have David Arquette. We pushed for it. And now people take our calls more easily than they used to when it was a medium they didn’t understand. It’s a lot easier with young actors because they know this stuff.
