Elden Ring is headed to the big screen. The fantasy masterpiece from FromSoftware—a role-playing action game in the ‘soulslike’ genre—has been one of the most influential titles in recent years, and its legacy continues to grow.

Elden Ring Heads to the Big Screen

A24, which is also handling the Death Stranding adaptation, may be entrusting the film to the best possible director.

But it seems the saga won’t remain purely digital. The Elden Ring movie might be in the hands of true heavyweights of the industry.

No major game would be complete without a film adaptation, and according to recent rumors, Elden Ring may be getting one in the best hands possible. But caution: this remains just a rumor with no official confirmation.

Rumor Points to Alex Garland as Director

The report comes from Nexus Point News, which claims Elden Ring is being adapted for the big screen under the direction of Alex Garlandknown for the recent Civil War and acclaimed works like Annihilation and Ex Machina.

At his side would be A24the cult production company also working on Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding film adaptation. If confirmed, this news would grant Elden Ring an exceptional level of cinematic credibility.

Alexander Medawar Garland – English author, screenwriter, and director.

Garland, who has built his career straddling fantasy and existential drama, has seen his prestige soar in recent years—not only with Civil Warbut also with Warfarea war film recently released that received excellent reviews.

The British filmmaker also has a previous connection to the video game world: he co-wrote Enslaved: Odyssey to the WestNinja Theory’s post-apocalyptic epic, and later oversaw the script for DmC: Devil May Crythe bold reboot of Capcom’s saga.

He’s also known for his uncredited directing role in Dredd (2012), a notable adaptation of the iconic comic book character.

A Logical Move for A24

As for A24, their commitment to prestige video game adaptations seems solid. After Death Stranding, Elden Ring appears to be their next major project—a logical step for a studio seeking new creative frontiers.

Even though this is a complex adaptation—the story and lore of Elden Ringco-written by George R.R. Martin, is quite deep and cryptic—it seems the journey of the Tarnished through the Lands Between may be in the hands of the ideal director to bring it to life.
