Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Minecraft, and as long as you ignore the appearance of actual humans, the trailer looks pretty good.
More than a decade after it was first announced, and five years after its original release date, the first trailer for the Minecraft movie has finally been released, and for the most part it looks pretty good! The textures on the pigs, llamas, and Piglins are pretty realistic though, so the CGI team deserves some credit for their work in that regard. The biggest problem comes with all the real humans, who look very much like green screen, but not in that smooth, unobtrusive way, more like Spy Kids, oh, the budget here isn’t as big as you’d hope.
It doesn’t release until April 4, 2025, so there’s always a chance it could look a little more natural, but for now I’d rather see real-life Minecraft pigs. The trailer’s description also offers more insight into the plot, explaining: “Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you make things, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits — Garrett “Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myles), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks) — find themselves struggling to solve ordinary problems when they’re suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre cube wonderland of imaginative creation.”

“To get back home, they must master the world (and protect it from evil forces like piglins and zombies) while embarking on a magical journey with an unlikely expert craftsman, Steve (Jack Black). Their adventure will challenge the five to be fearless and rediscover the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative… the very skills they’ll need to thrive in the real world.”
The director is Jared Hess, who is probably best known for Napoleon the Great and Dangal, the latter of which also stars Minecraft Steve’s Jack Black. Other cast members include the much-loved Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement, though their roles are unknown at this time.
You’ll be able to watch Minecraft: The Movie (that seems to be the official title) on April 4, 2025.
