Adaptations of video games into films are popular. While Sonic got himself a second youth in the cinema with millions in earnings, Nintendo and the studio Illumination Entertainment (Les Minions, Despicable Me) to make the first animated Super Mario Bros. On the occasion of a unique Nintendo Direct, the Japanese company unveiled a first preview of the adaptation seven years after its announcement.
As a leak had indicated, the characters’ design will indeed remain essentially faithful to the original material, with some liberties in terms of proportions. Some netizens also criticized Peach’s design following a leak, noting that she looks too much like a Disney princess for their liking. The small illumination touch not only makes you happy, but also looks promising. Chris Pratt’s performance isn’t convincing yet as it’s just his usual voice.
