As many people want to know Microsoft will exit the console market, Phil Spencer has apparently assured employees that it intends to continue making Xbox.
While it’s all still up in the air, the future of PlayStation and Nintendo is looking greener, as there are various rumors about Hi-Fi Rush, Starfield, and Indiana Jones and the Circle – All current Xbox exclusive games – may be coming to rival platforms. It seems likely that Hi-Fi Rush will be coming to PS5 and Switch soon, while Starfield and Indy may only be coming to PS5, but this all has Xbox fans a little worried. Spencer did address the speculation earlier this week, saying there would be some kind of business update event next week where “more details” would be shared about “our vision for the future of Xbox.”

Now, Inverse’s head of gaming Shannon Liao has shared in her own Substack newsletter that Xbox recently held an internal town hall where Spencer told employees that the company has no plans to stop making consoles and that Xbox continues to be part of its strategy , which includes equipment for various game consoles. Obviously, that doesn’t speak to what the overall strategy is right now, and despite Xbox’s general “play anywhere” attitude toward gaming – meaning, on Xbox, PC, mobile, via the cloud – it’s not surprising that the company is considering bringing its popular games to other platforms.
Obviously, if this change does happen, it will mark a major shift in the console landscape. Even Halo may be coming to other platforms, although the idea of a game that feels so quintessentially Xbox coming to something like the PlayStation certainly isn’t going to be popular with Xbox fans. Personally, I think the less console exclusives the better, but for now we’ll just have to wait to hear from Spencer and co next week.
