The Game Awards in December have not only blossomed into the most important award ceremony in the games industry, but also regularly come up with a number of world premieres and new announcements. This year’s edition now has a specific date.
This Tuesday, Geoff Keighley will first of all lead through the gamescom Opening Night Live and deliver a number of world premieres and game presentations, but unsurprisingly the well-known games journalist will return to the stage with a proven format in December: The Game Awards 2022 now have one specific date.
Shortly before the start of gamescom, it is now clear when you can look forward to The Game Awards this year. The format will stay true to December and is set to air December 8, 2022 this time. It will be the ninth edition since it was originally launched in 2014.
The venue will be the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles – and as usual, not only will the best games of the year be awarded, but there will also be a number of world premieres and new releases. Exact details on show length, nominees and more will be announced at a later date.
One thing is already certain: there will be at least one new category for the actual awards – namely that of the best adaptation. Here, creative works are to be honored which deal with the implementation of video game brands in other popular media.
Like the Summer Game Fest, this year’s Game Awards is also based on a partnership with IMAX and will therefore also be shown in cinemas in selected major cities around the world.
