Dear GameStar readers,
actually we had hoped to be able to look back on this year in a more positive way than was the case with the last two Christmas greetings. Unfortunately, the reality is different. The corona pandemic is far from over, the Ukraine war has been raging for more than ten months now and inflation is affecting us all.
This not only affects our professional and everyday life, but also the most beautiful hobby in the world. Developer studios from the Ukraine had to get to safety, rising electricity prices make us think about energy saving measures in gaming and one game shift still follows the next.
Release postponed
All PC Games Delayed in 2022 and 2023
But not everything was disastrous in 2022 and although we have to wait until 2023 for a Diablo 4, for example, there were some bright spots in the gaming sky. In February, Elden Ring not only delighted die-hard fans of From Software games, but also cast a spell over a large number of open-world enthusiasts and Souls newcomers.
The long-awaited Korean MMO Lost Ark finally made it to the West and experienced such a rush for release in February that many voluntarily waited in queues for hours to plunge into the adventures of Arkesia.
And the more often the big games were postponed, the more limelight was left for the smaller but no less great game pearls like Cult of the Lamb, A Plague Tale: RequiemStray or the long-awaited Dwarf Fortress, which has finally officially appeared on Steam.

What moved the editors in 2022
Of course, there weren’t just a lot of positive things in the PC games. A lot has also happened in the editorial department since last year. Colleague Dimi was promoted to editor- in-chief and since then has mainly been responsible for the day-to-day business of GameStar. Colleague Maurice has been a full-time streamer since the end of 2021 and shows you exciting strategy hits and insider tips from Tuesday to Saturday.
And speaking of the podcast founding team: While the other two now mostly pursue other tasks, Micha has put on the podcast crown and, as Head of Podcast, ensures even more and even more exciting audio content.
For example, with a well-maintained podcast on Diablo 4 and the first impressions of Micha, Maurice and Fabiano:

Probably the biggest development in the GameStar cosmos is the emergence of GameStar Tech. Planning took a long time in the background, a team was assembled and a new sub-website was set up. Now the new department is finally here and provides you with exciting news from the world of technology and science every day.
However, with all the growth and change, we must not lose sight of the beginnings. So we celebrated our 25th anniversary in September 2022 and still can’t quite believe it ourselves. A quarter century of GameStar. Insanity!
2023 can come – we are ready
With a good party atmosphere, a new lineup, great team members and many exciting game releases in 2023, we are ready for the new year and the next quarter of a century. We continue to do our best to get the most out of your and our favorite hobby.
We are fueled by your enthusiasm for games, your feedback and your trust in us. You are the heart of GameStar and without you we couldn’t do it all. We would therefore like to thank you. For your loyalty, your constructive criticism and your commitment to making GameStar a little bit better every day together with us.

The GameStar team wishes you a Merry Christmas
In 2022 we have already achieved a lot together. Now we’re going to eat a few cookies as a reward, maybe plant ourselves under the Christmas tree with Steam Deck or Switch and put our feet up for a moment so that 2023 can get going again.
We wish you a Merry Christmas, a few relaxing days with your loved ones and of course, as always, lots of fun playing!
