The series implementation of The Last of Us will start in mid-January on the US channel HBO and in local areas on Sky/WOW. Following this first season, the implementation could continue, as Naughty Dogs Neil Druckmann is now hinting at.
Shortly before the start of the TV series, The Last of Us is of course on everyone’s lips again; After all, this implementation is considered extremely promising, especially since Naughty Dog was also directly involved in the person of Neil Druckmann. Just that has now joined the HBO series The Hollywood Reporter
While the first season starts in the middle of the month on Sky and WOW in Germany, Druckmann has now confirmed that the content of the series implementation will never go beyond the games. Indirectly, he suggests that another season based on the game sequel The Last of Us: Part II is quite possible.
“We don’t have any plans to tell stories beyond the games,” said Druckmann. Conversely, plans for the outstanding stories from the games could already be in the drawer.
And further: “We will not run into the same problem as Game of Thrones after [The Last of Us:] Part II does not end with a cliffhanger. Game of Thrones has come to an end after eight seasons, with the last few seasons penned by HBO’s own series creators because George RR Martin is lagging behind with his books. The last two seasons of Game of Thrones in particular were sometimes harshly criticized – a circumstance that The Last of Us should avoid by not even going beyond the template.
A second season of the series has not yet been officially confirmed; Ultimately, that might also depend on how the first season hits from the middle of the month. Broadcast on Sky will begin on January 16, 2023.
