The US television broadcaster HBO is known to be working with Naughty Dog on a series adaptation of The Last of Us – and it is said to be truly epic, if new statements are to be believed.
It was already clear that the series for The Last of Us should also be ambitious. The truly epic dimensions of the project may only now become clear from a new statement.
This comes from an unusual source, as Alberta Prime Minister Jason Kenny made it. The series for the successful Naughty Dog title is being shot in that very Canadian province and, according to the premier, HBO has really big plans. In a speech on the economic situation in Alberta, Kenny said that HBO would pump around $ 200 million a year into the project.
The premier also said that HBO would plan up to eight seasons of The Last of Us. The latter is particularly surprising when you consider that the first season, which is currently in production, is supposed to depict the events of the first game. Naughty Dog, together with HBO, will probably come up with a lot of ideas about how the series should continue if it is successful.
The adaptation of the first game is supposed to stay true to the original material as far as possible, but Neil Druckmann also let it be known that in the first season one or the other “clear deviation” from the game will be accommodated in some places. This could possibly pave the way for the many apparently planned seasons.
For now, we’re waiting for the series to start, which is slated on HBO later in 2022; in Germany, the first season should then probably be seen on Sky. We will of course keep you up to date on the further developments of the project.
