A remake of The Last of Us hasn’t been officially announced by Sony yet it’s in the works, but it’s considered one of the gaming industry’s worst-kept secrets. Now there could even be a release date for the new edition.
Update: Remake for PS5 and PC official (06/09/2022 – 21:56)
That happened quickly: The Last of Us remake was officially confirmed in the run-up to the Summer Game Fest – albeit via a leak. A corresponding product entry including a trailer was briefly found in the PlayStation Direct Store, before it was removed again R 11; and now, after confirmation at the Summer Game Fest, is back online.
The Last of Us: Part I will be remade not only for the PS5, but also for the PC; the rumors have been confirmed to this extent. A release on September 2, 2022 has been confirmed for the console, but the first part for the PC will follow at a slightly later date, which has not yet been specified.
The game has been completely remastered for the PS5, while remaining true to the original gaming experience, although with modernized gameplay, improved controls and new accessibility options. Included in the remake are the full single player story of the game and also the DLC prequel chapter “Left Behind”.
In addition to a Standard Edition, there is also a Firefly Edition with a few more extras. You can watch the trailer shown at the Summer Game Fest below.

Is the date set for the remake? (Rumor) (06/09/2022 – 16:34)
While Naughty Dog continues to refrain from announcing the remake of The Last of Us, the well-informed insiders Jeff Grubb and Tom Henderson recently suggested that it could work out with a release this year. The PS5 remake of the game could appear in the fall, it was said a while ago – and a new rumor now supports this fact.
This time, insider_wtf, another leaker, spoke up via Twitter – and he has also often hit the mark with his statements in the past, including the line-up of the recently staged State of Play. In this case, he does not name The Last of Us at all, but the community presumably deciphered his cryptic tweet quite quickly.
The leaker released a simple “PART 1 – 02.09.2022”, paired with two emojis of a controller and a PC. Since the second part is known to be called The Last of Us: Part II, the tweet most likely refers to the first part – and thus the remake that is often mentioned in the rumor mill.
Interesting: With September 2, 2022 there is not only a potential release date, but also a PS5 exclusivity of the revision of the blockbuster seems to be off the table. Sony also seems to be stepping up its PC efforts with The Last of Us Remake, after recently announcing Spider-Man Remastered and Spider-Man: Miles Morales for the domestic calculator at State of Play.
Clarity might prevail as early as tonight should Naughty Dog and Sony use Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest as a stage to announce the remake. How do you keep up to date.
