After only two episodes, “The Last of Us” on HBO was successful enough to justify a second season. But will the sequel take over the plot of the second game?
- “The Last of Us” continues in a 2nd season!
- HBO has confirmed the sequel to the critically acclaimed video game adaptation.
- The story of the 2nd video game is also supposed to be told in the series, but is it ready for season 2?
The enthusiasm for “The Last of Us” spreads as rapidly as the Cordyceps mushroom in the series, which is why the US broadcaster HBO officially ordered a sequel after just two episodes. In a statement, game and series creator Neil Druckman commented on the early extension.
I’m grateful, honored and frankly blown away that so many people tuned in and connected to our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey. Working with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast and crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations. Now we have the great pleasure of repeating this with Season 2! On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog and PlayStation, I want to say thank you!
Neil Druckman
Previously, Druckman and co-showrunner Craig Mazin promised that should The Last of Us get more seasons, they would adapt the game’s plot to The Last of Us Part II, and also hinted that the story would end with the end of the game 2. Game should end.
However, it cannot be ruled out that season 2 will close the time gap between the two games, which is at least 5 years long. Not only would that allow HBO to run the show for three seasons, but lead actress Bella Ramsey would have more time to visibly age and thus play an older and former Ellie.
We won’t know more about the plans for season 2 until March, when season 1 has aired in full on HBO. In Germany you can see “The Last of Us” on Wow or Sky, unless you use these stream alternatives.
