The Last of Us series has officially made the history of live-action video game adaptations. It is simply historic and, above all, deserved.
The Last of Us series showed that it is possible to make a television adaptation of a video game worthy of the name. This isn’t the only example, but there aren’t dozens either. So such quality deserves a reward. The feedback from the public and critics was clear, but we’re not talking about that today. In fact, the series just made history in an undeniable way.
The “Last of Us” series wins the awards, it’s historic
Well, when we say that it “shapes history,” we do so in a very specific sense. That of live-action video game adaptations. To put you in context, the 75th Emmy Awards took place on January 15th. Normally it was supposed to have taken place last September before it was ultimately postponed. And here we are talking about the main ceremony and not the Creative Arts Emmy, which took place on January 7, 2024. Anyway, it’s time to see the scoreboard for The Last of Us series.
It’s simple: she has won a total of 8 Emmys (which confirms the awards on the first night of the ceremony). You don’t have to be an expert to see that it’s pretty impressive. But it really becomes dizzying when we compare it with other series or film adaptations of video games. No one has ever managed to achieve such a score. Let’s be clear again that this is live action. Yes, we weren’t lying when we said it was historic. The Last of Us definitely knew how to shake more than one person.
The rewards are very different. The performances of Nick Offerman as Bill and Storm Reid as Riley Abel were recognized with two awards. Unfortunately no trophy for Pedro Pascal or Bella Ramsey, we may have to wait until season two for that. We also award the Emmy for best special effects, best title logo design or best makeup (with prosthetics). Knowing that The Last of Us series has 24 nominations is a great achievement.
The cast of the second season is expanding
Season 2 is still in production, but now we have a lot of information to put into action. In fact, the cast is slowly but surely starting to reveal itself. We already have the Abby actress who has a lot of rumors going around. She is played by Kaitlyn Dever (Incredible, Bookseller…), and unsurprisingly it has already sparked debate on the web. Anyway, Jesse’s actor was also announced and it was Young Mazino from the series Beef who got the role. Finally we have the name of the person who will play Dina and it will be Isabela Merced, who we have seen in particular in the live action Dora the Explorer. There are some great people there and we can’t wait to see them play.
