“The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” sold 10 million copies in three days, surpassing the debut of “Elden Ring” and on par with “Pokémon: Scarlet” and “Violet.”
You probably won’t be surprised to hear that Tears of Kingdoms is selling ridiculously well, with Nintendo sharing today that the game sold more than 10 million copies in its first three days. “The Legend of Zelda: Tear of Kingdoms sold over 10 million copies worldwide in its first three days, making it the fastest-selling game in Zelda franchise history,” read the tweet announcing the impressive stats . “Thanks to those who are already enjoying Link’s latest adventure!”
It cannot be underestimated what a huge number this is. For context, Breath of the Wild’s lifetime sales are currently around 30 million, meaning its sequel managed to sell a third of those sales within a week of its release. It also performed very well compared to other similar titles; Elden Ring sold 13.4 million copies in its first month, which is still a respectable number, putting Kingdom Tears far ahead.
“We are grateful to all the fans who have shown enthusiasm for The Legend of Zelda over the years, and these sales figures for the latest installment continue to show the strength of the franchise and the Nintendo Switch this year,” Devin Pritchard of Nintendo of America said in a statement. Tears of Kingdom also kept pace with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which also managed to sell 10 million copies in the same time frame. It’s worth noting here that Pokemon games generally have a wider appeal, but the double version also helps the game’s sales, making Tears of Kingdoms’ achievement even more impressive.
