Surprisingly, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is OpenCritic’s highest rated game of all time and Metacritic’s highest rated game of the year.
Folks, it looks like we have a new champion sitting on OpenCritic’s top-rated game of all time, as Nintendo stole its spot with its latest release, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of a Kingdom. That title previously belonged to another big Nintendo IP, Super Mario Odyssey, but The Legend of Zelda: Tear of the Kingdom managed to claim the top spot, putting the developer in a pretty high position.
However, Tears of the Kingdom narrowly took first place, dropping the gap to less than 1%, as The Legend of Zelda game scored a very specific 97.233 out of 100, while Super Mario Odyssey is 96.811 (thanks, Nintendo Live). You probably won’t be surprised to hear that Breath of the Wild came in third with a score of 95.905. If you want to compare and contrast the top 10 full list of games on OpenCritic, here’s the one for you:
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- Super Mario Odyssey
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Red Dead Redemption 2 (96)
- Ring of Elden(95)
- God of War(94)
- The Last of Us Remastered (94)
- Persona 5 Royal(94)
- Persona 5 (94)
- Hades(94)
An important thing to note is that OpenCritic mainly only offers newer games, so it won’t consider some older titles. That’s where Metacritic steps in, with the top-rated spot being another Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. However, at the time of writing, Tears of Kingdoms is the highest-rated game of the year, so it’s doing just fine.
None of this came as a surprise to us, though, as we gave it the highest score in our game review.
