With “The Matrix Resurrections”, the continuation of the sci-fi film series is in the starting blocks – and apparently there should also be a new gaming experience to match.
Update # 2: Tech demo now available (10.12.2021 – 12:14 p.m.)
As part of the Game Awards, Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie Anne-Moss (Trinity) personally took the stage to present the previously announced technology demo The Matrix Awakens based on Unreal Engine 5. This can now also be downloaded and enjoyed on PS5 and Xbox Series X / S.
The demo is around ten minutes long and merges game with film. Real scenes are impressively combined with computer-generated scenes. The bottom line is that Matrix fans as well as technology fetishists get their money’s worth, because the demo shows what the new consoles and the new Unreal Engine are now capable of.

Update: Tech demo for PS5 and XSX now in pre-load (December 6th, 2021 – 7:54 pm)
That went quickly! From now on you can actually download a tech demo for Unreal Engine 5 called The Matrix Awakens. The pre-load is available on both PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X / S, but the full presentation of the gaming experience will not take place until later in the week – presumably as part of the Game Awards.
The download is a whopping 29 GB. Responsible for the good piece are Epic Games in cooperation with members of the team behind the original Matrix film, including Lana Wachowski. The gaming experience is described as a “wild ride” into the universe of The Matrix – performances by Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss included. The technology demo is intended to give an impression of the future of interactive storytelling and entertainment.

Original message: Apparently PS5 game experience planned for the film (December 6th, 2021 – 8:44 am)
After many years, the legendary Matrix film series will be continued again this December and fans are already excited to see what “The Matrix Resurrections” will be all about. On December 22nd, the go-ahead will be given in the cinemas and then reveal the continuation of the story of the original trilogy. Obviously, it will not stop there.
A new leak from Reddit user the_andshrew and further speculations on the net suggest that there should also be a new gaming experience to match the film. It will probably not be a full-fledged title, but rather a rather smaller spin-off.
This is supposed to be called The Matrix Awakens and is based on the Unreal Engine 5 from Epic Games. The above image was found in the PlayStation Network’s data system; in this context the PlayStation 5 is specifically mentioned. It remains to be seen whether the game experience will also appear on other platforms.
The new Unreal Engine 5 was only presented in May 2020 and has been in Early Access since then; the number of projects that use the next-gen engine from Epic Games is still fairly manageable, so the Matrix spin-off is of even greater interest than it is already.
An official announcement is still pending, but could be expected at The Game Awards on December 9th. Why? Then the main actors of the film, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will also make an appearance and present an award.
