Golden future or horror vision: Mark Zuckerberg’s Metaverse avatar in front of a hellish Diablo 4 concept art.
You might think the Metaverse is almost a reality. Since Mark Zuckerberg renamed his company from Facebook to Meta in October 2021 and in a video has presented a cheerfully colorful mixed reality vision of the future, the term “metaverse” resounds at us from more and more mouths and press reports.
Even Microsoft justified its $70 billion (not $80 billion, as Micha says in the podcast) acquisition plans for Activision with the Metaverse, whose ideal entry point is gaming.
But the Metaverse is not just a dream of the future from a technological point of view. In terms of content, too, there is no clear concept, but at most a handful of pieces of the puzzle. And they don’t arouse anticipation, but concern – if only when it comes to NFTs and blockchain.
Because the Metaverse can become a dystopia, a virtual hell, if we don’t argue about it. Micha discusses the reasons for this in the podcast with Human Nagafi, management consultant 1789 Innovations and podcasters at Corporate Therapy.

There may be good intentions behind the vision of the Metaverse – a persistent, virtual parallel world that permeates our lives even more than today’s Internet. But they can lead to similar shoals as with social media, which we are only now gradually noticing that they have not only improved our coexistence.
Lest the same thing happen with the Metaverse – only on a much larger scale – we must approach this new vision with skepticism. It is always appropriate.
