If we only look at the raw data, it shows that the open beta of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 a huge success was: more players, more matches played, more hours played than any predecessor.
We have an overview of the great success, but also the announced changes to be made to the shooter after the beta.
Much success, but also much criticism
All available platforms are added together, i.e. PC (Steam and Battle.net), Playstation 4 and 5 as well as Xbox One and Series X/S. However, the developers did not publish any specific figures, but shared the success story via Twitter:

After all, the Steam player numbers are publicly available. at SteamDB shows that the peak was 168,330 concurrent players, which is around 10,000 more than in the Battlefield 2042 beta.
Of course, the bare numbers are not yet a measure of how well the game is received by the community. However, Modern Warfare 2 can certainly collect some praise – for example from the well-known CoD expert Xclusive Ace. Our editorial staff also had a lot of fun with the multiplayer, for example with the Ground War mode:

But there is also loud criticism: After the open beta, not everyone is convinced that Modern Warfare 2 can bring the series to new heights. Many are bothered by the lack of red dots on the mini-map, the sometimes poor visibility or the footstep noise, which often means that you first shoot at an ally.
After the test phase, our freelance author Sascha Penzhorn is more skeptical than reassured:

What changes after the beta
The developers want to address at least some of the frequently criticized points before the release on October 28, 2022, as they do in a blog post communicate. The main veins:
- The volume of footsteps of your friends and enemies should be adjusted
- Visibility should also be further improved so that we can reliably tell opponents and allies apart
- Many players do not like the fact that the lobbies dissolve after each match, there should be a solution for the launch here
- In third-person mode, we aim to improve how we switch perspective from one shoulder to the other
- In general, many bugs have been recognized and can now be worked on
If you’ve participated in the beta, you’ll also get some exclusive rewards when Modern Warfare 2 launches, based on which tier you leveled up from. You can find an overview in this picture:
