Christmas is just around the corner and in addition to mulled wine and currywurst at the Christmas market, many other delicacies are waiting – in the form of festive in-game events in many popular games.
We show you the most important winter events, what new game modes you can expect and what rewards you can get this year. Also: All free promotions in which you get free games and other goodies for the festival.
The best winter events in games 2022
Apex Legends

The Winter Express returns in Apex Legends: In this game mode, three squads fight to conquer the eponymous train.
There are also 24 wintry skins for the characters Crypto, Newcastle, Valkyrie, Gibraltar and Bloodhound and matching weapons – but you have to buy them with Apex Coins for real money or make them with crafting materials you have saved.
Dead by Daylight
- Start: December 1
- End: 3 January
There is no special game mode in Dead by Daylight, but there are plenty of gifts: until January 3, 2023 you will receive Blood Points, Iridescent Shards and other rewards for logging in.

Destiny 2
- Start: 13th December
- End: probably January 6th
Destiny 2 will be the event this year Bake cookies with space granny
bring back, in which you have to fulfill various quests for the NPC Eva Levante so that she can bake delicious cookies from your enemies.
The rewards are not yet known, but last year there was a Christmas-themed exotic ship and a legendary sword.
Elder Scrolls Online

Also in the MMO Elder Scrolls Online Christmas is celebrated. In mid-December, the New Year’s Festival in East March starts here, where you have to complete ten special quests. As a reward, there is a crystal frost appearance as a decoration for your house, you can also pull winter skins from reward boxes – see the picture above.

Epic Games Store

Like last year, the Epic Games Store will be giving away one game every day for two weeks this year. It’s definitely worth checking in here every day, because in 2021 some top-class products were given away – including Shenmue 3, Loop Hero, Vampyr, Control and Prey

Fortnite

- End: not yet known
The popular Battle Royale Fortnite is also celebrating its winter festival this year. As always, this means finding and using special items around the map, like a snowball launcher or frosty grenades. There are also rumors of a cross-over event with the film Die Hard, which is also a kind of Christmas film for many.
In addition, there should again be many free rewards in the form of skins, emotes, gliders and more – exact details have not yet been confirmed here.

League of Legends

The world’s largest MOBA League of Legends celebrates Christmas with the Winterblessed event. In addition to a mostly paid Event Pass, you can earn various cosmetic items here if you play the festively decorated ARAM map.
Overwatch 2

- End: January 4th
In Blizzard’s shooter Overwatch 2, the second season started on December 6, 2022 and brought a new tank called Ramattra. A week later, the Overwatch Winter Wonderland 2022 starts, which provides a lot of variety every year with game modes such as snowball fights and yeti hunts.
There will be some new skins again this year, but probably only in the in-game shop due to the Free2Play changeover.

World of Warcraft

Also the annual Feast of Winter Veil in World of Warcraft returns in 2022 of course. You have to fulfill various quests for Allfather Winter and bring him gingerbread and milk. As a reward, there will be two toys for your collection this year – a Shooting Star Launcher and a Shooting Star Catcher. You can also dig through piles of snow and, with a bit of luck, find a Grumpling pet.
