According to Deadline, a new Squid game series is reportedly in development. But its nature might disappoint and not please all Netflix subscribers.
Squid Game is still a very young Netflix series, but it is one of the biggest hits on the platform, especially in non-English television shows. The company with the red N was enough to commission several projects based on Hwang Dong-hyeok’s South Korean creation, including the reality TV show “Le Défi”, which became a hit. Although there was a worrying controversy over the filming conditions, which several participants described as very dangerous. A new series that could air in one to two years has also been confirmed and shared.
A new Squid Game series for Netflix? Yes but…
Netflix wants to exploit its phenomenon as much as possible, including with the video game Squid Game Unleashed and of course with the second season of the series. But we’ve been hearing for a few months now that the company with the red N has already confirmed the idea of a US remake by David Fincher. One of the greatest directors still active, known for Fight club, Seven, The social network or The murderer released exclusively on Netflix. Is this true or a completely unfounded rumor? According to the very reputable Deadline, an American version of Squid Game is in development led by David Fincher.
“Fincher had previously been linked to directing a project in the Squid Game universe, which included a potential English-language film. “In the last few weeks we have learned that it is a series and not a film.” explains the webzine. A US remake, especially this early, will undoubtedly cause divisiveness. We’re already seeing a lot of commentary about the lack of originality in Hollywood, and unfortunately that’s not wrong. There is no further information at the moment and, unsurprisingly, Netflix has refused to comment.
This new Squid Game series, which is just a US reboot, is rumored to be written by Denis Kelly, the author of Utopia. There is also no release date, but the launch could be 2025 or 2026 as David Fincher is said to be working on it next year. The second season will be released very soon December 26, 2024 on Netflix.
