News culture The new series The Office will take a completely different direction than the original. Will the fans still be there?
The universe of the Office series will soon be expanded with a spin-off that will have a completely different name.
A spin-off for The Office
It seems that the next spin-off series from The Office universe will not be called “The Office” but “The Paper.” A clue that the DiscussingFilm account found while reading the profile by showrunner Greg Daniels (the man behind the American version of The Office) on the website of the Writers Guild of America. “Worst title in history,” “Don’t have great expectations, but I’ll be there,” we read on Twitter among a number of rather skeptical comments about the new direction.
The series follows the Dunder Mifflin documentary team as they focus on a disappearing Midwest newspaper and its volunteer journalists. The latest information, released by the media Deadline a few days ago, revealed that Daniels continued to work with a group of screenwriters on a possible expansion of the universe of The Office, along with co-creator Nathan For You (also a docu-reality comedy series), Michael Koman, who would then have established himself “as the leading creative voice”. If the project is green-lit, the latter will become the co-creator of the spin-off. Note that Koman and Daniels know each other very well, since both were writers of the show Saturday Night Live
After a decade of dominating our screens, the hilarious The Office is back with a spin-off that promises to retain the humorous spirit that made it famous. However, we will have to do without the star of its early days. Steve Carell confirmed that he would not be in the new spin-off: “I’ll watch, but I won’t come. It’s new and there’s really no reason for my character to appear in it
The cast of The Paper, if that is the final name, includes Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore. Gleeson is best known for his roles in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where he plays Bill Weasley, but also in Ex Machina and The Labyrinth of Silence. Sabrina Impacciatore, for her part, is an Italian actress who has appeared in Le Cose che Restano and AmeriQua.
