Tomb Raider could have found its new Lara Croft. An actress is currently causing a stir and you know her very well because she has already appeared in numerous films and series, including real blockbusters.
We’ve been waiting for Lara’s return for some time. So yes, we got a nice compilation with Tomb Raider Remastered that included the adventurer’s first three adventures, but that’s not enough. Even though we’re expecting a second collection with Tomb Raider 4, 5 and hopefully not TR 6, it’s above all the new big game in the series that we’re eagerly awaiting and that’s currently bubbling away in the kitchens at Crystal Dynamics.
The next Tomb Raider is long overdue, who will be the next Lara?
At the moment we have very little information on the subject. Officially we know that the game is being developed using the Unreal Engine 5. In addition, the game was announced during a conference centered around the graphics engine. We also know that this new Tomb Raider is intended to be a sort of link between the Lara of the reboots launched in 2013 and the experienced adventurer she was in the 90s and 2000s.
It’s hard to imagine all adventures suddenly becoming canon, but it’s certain that Lara will evolve. She should no longer be the young rookie and stumbling, albeit survivor, that she was until Shadow of the Tomb Raider, a game in which she also evolved greatly, going from prey to hunter.
Lara is not just a woman, they are legion
And when you say evolution, you very often mean a new character, a new script and therefore a new incarnation. There aren’t many people at VF who have passed the baton on. The iconic Françoise Cadol played Lara from the series’ inception until 2014, when she lent her voice to the spin-off “Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris”.
However, for the 2013 reboot and its sequel “Rise of the Tomb Raider” she will make way for Alice David. Finally, for Shadow of the Tomb Raider Anna Sigalevitch will take on the role. It remains to be seen whether she will also be in the new edition of the franchise. Unfortunately, we don’t know anything at the moment.
Polyphonic also in the original version
On the VO side, it is more complicated. Many voice actresses have passed the baton, much more than in France. Shelley Blond on the first game, Judith Gibbins from 1997 to 1998 (TR 2 and 3), Jonell Elliott from 1999 to 2000 (TR 4, 5, 6), Keeley Hawes from 2006 to 2010 (Tomb Raider Anniversary, Underworld
Again, it remains to be seen whether or not she will return for the next Tomb Raider, but since Lara is expected to gain momentum, it is very likely that the actress will change and it could be that we have already found her.
The next Tomb Raider could have found his new Lara
If you have seen recent Marvel productions, you have certainly already come across the very talented and charismatic Hayley Atwell, who has played the role of Agent Carter since Captain America. The actress also works as a voice actress in her spare time and will be donning Lara Croft’s boots and bags Netflix’s next animated series is scheduled for October 10, 2024
Hayley Atwell will play Lara one after the other, on television and in a video game. Could she be our new Lara Croft for the next Tomb Raider? It is very likely especially since the actress would fit quite well into this new version of Lara that has been teased by Crystal Dynamics. Stronger and more experienced. It’s also good to keep in mind that the Netflix series takes place after the events of Shadows of the Tomb Raider and would therefore be visibly canon. Which means that it could function here as a prequel, a transition to the Englishwoman’s next adventures.
But whatever is happening at the moment, the question remains unanswered. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but at the time of writing, nothing has been denied.
It is very likely that we will learn more in the coming months, because if Tomb Raider has not shown itself yet, we know that it has already been in development for several years, so its release should not be that far away.
