Anyone who is currently watching “The Office” on Netflix should think after just a few minutes: “Wait a minute, I already know that!”. In fact, “Das Büro” is a US remake of the British series “The Office”, which also inspired “Stromberg” in Germany. In the further course, all series differed greatly from each other, but especially in the first seasons there is a lot of overlap.
In the world of movies, remakes or sequels have been a popular way to risk little and still earn big for decades. It’s a bit different with series, here one even assumes a continuation in the form of further seasons, should the first episodes be successful.
Exceptions here are late sequels to series that have already been discontinued, such as “Twin Peaks: The Return” or “Dexter: New Blood”, but these are rare and usually not as successful as their original series.
