News culture The old-fashioned Game of Thrones season 2 of “House of the Dragon” will please fans … the stars of the HBO series have been confirmed
Unlike previous episodes, the new season of House of the Dragon will take us across Westeros in a similar way to Game of Thrones.
A more obvious lineage
This June, the best series of 2022 must finally return to our screens. House Targaryen is back with the second season of House of the Dragon, the television adaptation of the fantasy novel Fire and blood by George RR Martin. Set in the same universe as Game of Thrones, and set more than a century earlier, House of the Dragon is about the Dance of the Dragons, the murderous war that tore the royal dynasty apart.
Therefore, unlike Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon really focuses on a single house and primarily portrays the different members of the Targaryen family. The first season spanned several years, with most of the events taking place in King’s Landing, the capital of Westeros. But this new season should change the approach and return to the previous formula. Recently interviewed by
DeadlineActor Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen, said: “This time, the series follows the old-fashioned Game of Thrones formula, where you explore different worlds and corners of the kingdom of Westeros“.
Grief as a driving force
If this new season is to be more nomadic, it will continue to focus on the direct conflict between Princess Rhaenyra and her half-brother, King Aegon II. Without going into too much detail, the first season ended with a major death that upset Rhaenyra. That death is central to the characterization of the character in this second season, as actress Emma D’Arcy explained to Deadline.
I tried to take advantage of the suggestion that was made to me to physically represent grief, its impact on relationships, desires, mental state… The writers have achieved a masterpiece this season by managing to link personal emotions with the political ambitions of the characters. In my opinion, this is the real starting point of the series.
As George RR Martin had previously explained, this new season would be “very dark” and would therefore immerse us even deeper into the tragic chaos that is destroying House Targaryen. See you on June 17 with the release of the first episode exclusively on HBO’s MAX platform.
