queen of gold Nintendo Wii It’s on sale again, so if you want to spend about three Grand Plus, it’s all yours.
Back in 2009, video game publishers THQ Pulling a bit of a silly publicity stunt, it personally delivered a 24-karat gold Nintendo Wii to Queen Elizabeth for the second time.Absolutely just to advertise the unabashed shoddy Wii Sports rip off big family game, this isn’t the first game you’d think paired with the golden Wii. People Make Games later found out that Queen never actually got hold of the console, and it has changed hands several times since.
The list is on the aptly named Golding, which also includes the original issue of Batman’s debut, as well as a slew of sports cards. At the time of writing, there were over 13 bids at $3,000, and Goldin described it as the “ultimate Wii collectible.” It even has a copy of Big Family Games, but it should probably be thrown away now.
It was listed on eBay for around $300,000 when it was last auctioned, so this special occasion might also be worth more than it should. If you’re the type of person with that much money, you still have about two weeks to bid.
Still, as interesting as it is, the Queen may never even have seen it for safety reasons. It didn’t even enter the palace, it was sent back to the THQ office. Of course, THQ went bankrupt back in 2012, but it has since recovered, and the location of the golden Wii has become a bit of a mystery (videos of people making games help settle that history). It’s a weird piece of gaming history, but hey, let’s see where it’s going.
