Fans of “Ready Player One” can rest assured: everything seems to be progressing well for the sequel and there is excellent news for viewers. A wonder ?
In 2018 we were able to discover the excellent Ready Player One on the big screen. And we have to admit, it was still pretty spectacular. Apparently, fans wanted to know more about the possible future sequel. However, since nothing is ever easy, there have been several conflicting pieces of information. In the end the news is good and hope is revived. Especially since it is the great Spielberg who speaks directly. Enough to breathe deeply.
Ready, player two is on the way
During an interview with Showbiz 411 During Universal Pictures’ gala evening at Soho House following the 2024 Oscars, Spielberg shared news about his future projects. The director said no projects would go into production in 2024 and stressed that he was in a “discovery phase” to determine his next challenges. However, he confirmed his involvement as a producer on the Ready Player One sequel.
Steven Spielberg has therefore confirmed his role as producer in the highly anticipated sequel “Ready Player Two”. This announcement comes after years of uncertainty about the making of this sequel. The original film, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Ernest Cline and co-authored by Zak Penn, takes viewers into a dystopian future. Individuals looking to escape reality immerse themselves in a virtual reality simulation called OASIS and explore a universe full of popular culture references. The cast of the first film included actors such as Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, TJ Miller, Simon Pegg and Mark Rylance. We don’t know yet if any of them will be back in the sequel.
An obvious success, but a sequel whose beginning was difficult
Although the commercial success of the first film, which grossed over $607 million at the global box office, quickly sparked talk of a possible sequel, confirmation of a cinematic sequel to Ready Player One was a long time coming. Ernest Cline, the novel’s author, sparked speculation again in 2020 with the release of his second book, Ready Player Two, and the early announcement of a film adaptation. Despite this, the official green light from Warner Bros. for the Ready Player Two film has not yet been announced. Spielberg’s involvement as a producer is particularly interesting as he is generally reluctant to work on sequels, with notable exceptions being the Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park franchises.
