Since The Settlers was postponed indefinitely in March after a much-criticized beta, the building game has been quiet. But now Ubisoft has commented on the current state of affairs in a devblog.
The predominantly negative criticism of the beta for The Settlers hit Ubisoft hard – so much so that the game was postponed indefinitely. We haven’t heard much since then, but now Ubisoft has commented on the game and given an update on the technical test servers, which have been running since mid-May.
According to this, the team is apparently working on new updates with around 1,000 invited players, with the player team to be increased by another 500 players invited by Ubisoft. These players have the opportunity to deal extensively with the current status of the developer versions on the test servers and to submit feedback in an internal forum.
In the meantime, 4,000 matches have already been contested and Ubisoft is already working on a fourth update of the test version. In the gameplay, among other things, work was done on the economy and the combat system, the rush situation in skirmish maps was improved, new maps were added and more tutorials were created. In addition, the building costs and some production chains have been revised. There have also been countless balance changes, unit behavior improvements and bug fixes.
Regarding further developments, it says: “We will continue to invite more players to the Technical Test Server with each version. In order for our players to be a part of this development process, we plan to provide further insights into the progress on the Technical Test Server in the future .”
The complete blog entry you can take a look at the official settlers page. Let’s hope that Ubisoft takes the criticism and suggestions from the players back then to heart in order to get the settler cow off the ice.
