Single player focus instead of multiplayer stuff
This was the original plan: According to the official website, Atomic Heart was originally intended to offer some sort of PvP arena that players were supposed to reach via a hidden railway. In addition, the developers originally considered giving Atomic Heart a co-op mode as well. There have not been any more details about the respective modes so far.
That has now changed: According to Robert Bagratuni, Atomic Heart will no longer rely on the originally planned multiplayer elements. According to him, the entire gaming experience should primarily focus on the story. In addition, none of the four announced DLCs are planned as multiplayer addons.
What do the DLCs deliver instead? There is currently no concrete information about the addons. At the very least, Bagratuni promises that the Atomic Heart will add new areas, quests, puzzles, enemies, and characters. The open world-esque game world itself is also to be further expanded.
