The Sims 4 is no stranger to regular updates, and there’s a bustling community of creatives building architecturally interesting homes, as well as vibrant, frantic Sims. It’s a community that has flourished since its conception, and one that Maxis has rarely overlooked.
This time, Maxis launched the Gallery swearing filter updatewhich, according to a brief blog post about the update, means clearing its galleries of any “unacceptable content.”
“We are aware of and have seen some completely unacceptable content being uploaded to The Sims 4 Gallery,” the statement read. “Our team has reviewed the profanity filter and made an important update to help Prevent this from happening again in the future.”
Maxis continued, “We appreciate the community’s vigilance in helping us identify these inappropriate uploads so we can maintain a safe, creative environment for our players. We will continue to do our part to promptly remove objectionable content, repeat offenders are identified and removed, and the profanity filter is regularly reviewed in case any updates are required.”
While Maxis didn’t share any examples of content it removed from its gallery, nor any details about the update to its profanity filter, you can imagine what type of content it went the extra mile to remove.
Considering that The Sims 4 Gallery is a space where players can upload their own buildings, Sims homes, and entire lots, there are many ways for players to be creative while attacking. Maxis encourages all players who encounter profane content to report it using the in-game “Report” option.
It’s nothing new for players to find ways to create and share offensive content in games, but it’s good to see Maxis combating content with a sense of urgency.
We’ve also witnessed some wacky updates in the past that somehow unnecessarily introduced inappropriate content to The Sims 4. Back in August, Sims’ sexuality was added to the game.
However, there are several problems that come with it. There’s the super-fast aging bug, which sees toddlers turn into old people in minutes, and wishes to have inappropriate relationships with siblings and teens on a whim. As you’d imagine, this was fixed pretty quickly, too, but it’s still a funny accident.
It’s also worth noting that Project Rene, supposedly The Sims 5, was only recently announced. For this reason, The Sims 4 has been completely free. You might have picked it up for free during one of Origin’s many free weekends, but now you can play the game completely free on PC and consoles.
