Although many of the video game adaptations in the form of series and movies They end up giving good results, this is not always the case. Unfortunately, one of the latest cases that has been made known is that of the feature film based on Sleeping Dogs, one of the most surprising open-world action titles we have seen in recent years.
It was back in 2017 when it was announced that a Squre Enix game movie was going to be produced, but since then there has been a complete void in terms of news or developments about how this project was progressing. The reason has already been discovered after Donnie Yen, the actor who was going to play Wei Shen, the protagonist, told the portal Polygon what the movie has been canceled.
In a Zoom call, he confessed that He even put money out of his own pocket. as long as it went ahead and to obtain the drafts and some rights, but it is clear that the investment has not gone well at all and it will be time to forget about this film.
I spent a lot of time and work with these producers, and even invested some of my own money into getting the drafts and some of the rights. I waited for years. Years. And I really want to do it. I have all these visions in my head, and unfortunately… I don't know, you know how Hollywood works, right? I spent many, many years on it. It was a very unfortunate thing.
Considering how many years have passed since it was announced, it's not a big surprise that we won't finally see a movie from Sleeping Dogs. Therefore, the only thing left is to settle for the game that was released more than a decade ago, which is not bad either, given that the long-planned sequel and spin-off also did not end up coming to fruition.
