Next week starts with PoE: The Forbidden Sanctum the next expansion for the long-running action RPG Path of Exile, which turns the Hack&Slay into a roguelike à la Slay the Spire and Hades – you can find the trailer right under the next paragraph.
But what about the long-awaited successor Path of Exile 2? That’s what many journalists asked themselves at the preview event for the new update – and surprisingly, Grind Gear Games CEO Chris Wilson finally revealed concrete information about the release.

Path of Exile switches genres with the new expansion The Forbidden Sanctum
PoE 2 starts 2023 in the Beta
During a question and answer session with the PoE mastermind, which was supposed to be about the new league, the topic of the successor naturally came up. Since its announcement at ExileCon 2019, the developers have been mostly silent – all the more surprising that the cheerful Chris Wilson suddenly became concrete:
(The development of) Path of Exile 2 is going really well. (…) We will start marketing for it at ExileCon 2023, next year at the end of July. We’re hosting a convention in New Zealand where we’ll reveal everything about Path of Exile 2 and announce the date for the start of the beta.
We talked about what the future of the entire genre will probably look like in the following podcast:

The CEO also revealed that PoE 2 will be available to play at ExileCon 2023 in New Zealand. But European fans can also be happy, because the developer studio also wants to make a playable version available for all fans at gamescom 2023.
So we won’t know an exact date for the start of the beta until July 2023. However, Path of Exile will celebrate its tenth anniversary in October next year. So it’s quite possible that the birthday will be celebrated with the start of the beta.
Incidentally, according to Wilson, we can hope that the Diablo 4 competitor will be a complete success – he himself is completely convinced of his project:
The game is great, the game is really awesome!
Speaking of Diablo 4 – Fabiano is still unsure whether the new open world will really do the game any good:
Diablo 4
The open world is a risk to the Diablo universe
Are you looking forward to Path of Exile 2 or do you prefer to wait for Diablo 4? In which of the two Hack&Slay heavyweights do you place the greatest hope? Or will you give both titles a chance anyway? Write it to us in the comments!
