Hollywood star Demi Moore recently celebrated her big screen comeback with “The Substance” and is already generating enthusiasm among critics with this horror film. But when will the film be released in home cinemas?
With “The Substance” by screenwriter and director Coralie Fargeat, a feminist body horror film was released in German cinemas on September 19, 2024 and also celebrated the big screen comeback of Demi Moore, who plays the leading roles together with Margaret Qualley. Some viewers probably prefer the comfort of their own home rather than the cinema and are already looking forward to the home cinema premiere. But when will it happen?
When will “The Substance” be released in home cinemas?
“The Substance” was only released in cinemas a few days ago, so it will probably be a while before you can enjoy the film at home. As a rule, the films first appear as video-on-demand to buy or rent on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video before they find their way to streaming services. A home cinema premiere could therefore possibly take place in Winter 2024/25
“The Substance”: When will the film land on the streaming service?
It will probably be a while before “The Substance” lands on streaming services. Depending on the box office success, the streaming launch usually takes place some time later than the video-on-demand release, especially since the film has received predominantly positive feedback so far. We are not expecting a streaming launch at this point in time. Beginning of 2025.
The horror film could find its way to Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, similar to other genre films, but “The Substance” is distributed in this country by the film distributor MUBI. We therefore expect the film to appear first on the in-house streaming service MUBI.
“The Subtance” on DVD and Blu-ray
Anyone who wants to put “The Substance” on their shelf will also have to be patient for a while. Experience shows that the disc version usually appears shortly after the VoD version. Until further notice, we assume that the silver disc Beginning of 2025 will be available on DVD and Blu-ray.
