Well, you’re right to hope, because there’s still a glimmer of hope, The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan. JV brings you everything about this long-awaited feature film.
When is The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan out?
The project began in 2019 when production company Chapter2 was wondering which French work could create the event. After analyzing about fifteen works, a selection is made: it is the classic of French literature by Alexandre Dumas, The Three Musketeers, which is adapted to the cinema. The majority of the film was written during the two lockdowns in 2020 and it was decided to split the novel into two feature films. The diptych will appear in 2023: its first part entitled The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan, is scheduled for April 5 (this is the project that interests us here), and its second part, The Three Musketeers: My Lady, on December 13.
The feature film is being produced by Pathé and Chapter2 with the help of M6 and Constantin. These production companies have big ambitions for this film and convinced Canal+ and OCS to buy it two years before its release. It is imperative that the project be profitable, especially to repay its substantial budget of 72 million dollars. The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan is therefore driven out en masse by Pathé throughout France. An international release of the film is also planned. The film team admitted to having drawn inspiration from the Indiana Jones universe and various feature films such as La Reine Margot, Les Duellistes or Cyrano De Bergerac from 1990.

The Three Musketeers is the first in a trilogy completed by twenty years later etc The Viscount of Bragelonne. This trilogy of Musketeers was first published in the daily newspaper Le Siècle between 1844 and 1850, before appearing in volumes. The famous motto of the Musketeers is only uttered there once, at the end of Chapter 9 of The Three Musketeers, and that motto is not “One for all and all for one!” but “All for one, one for all!”. Alexandre Dumas was a playwright before becoming a novelist, and he adapted most of his novels into plays in the years following their publication. The Three Musketeers was therefore adapted under the title La Youth of the Musketeers circa 1849. This adaptation is the first in a very long series: there is an impressive number of films adapting the work and this from the early days of cinema, as well as a music show, French or British TV series, anime films and series, comics , manga and even a Japanese anime and a South Korean drama. The figure of the musketeer is still considered mythical and timeless.
