The Witcher 4 has to break new ground

Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon – Ciri for short – would be the logical main character for the new The Witcher based on Unreal Engine 5, which CD Projekt is currently working on. After Geralt of Rivia took his well-deserved retirement with the conclusion of his trilogy, his adopted daughter could continue the monster hunt. The cat medallion and the white frost in the first teaser image for “The Witcher: A New Saga Begins” also seemed to indicate this, as Micha and Maurice speculated in their video.

But: According to the CD Projekt, it’s not a cat but a lynx medallion! And there hasn’t been a lynx school in Witcher lore so far – apart from fan fiction.

What that could mean – and why Ciri is no longer the only possible main character – Micha discusses in the podcast:

• Natasha Becker, who wants The Witcher 4 to have a female protagonist – a witch! In order to check how realistic this and her other wishes are, she has worked into the Witcher lore. You can see that in detail in her video.
• Peter Bathgewho has never warmed to Geralt von Riva anyway and is hoping for a new main character as well as improvements in the gameplay.

In general, in addition to the main character, story and setting, we also talk about the structure of the game: After the technical problems with Cyberpunk 2077, will CD Projekt give up its “megalomania” in the future and build smaller worlds again, but more frequent sequels?

And, of course, gameplay matters. Do we want freer character development à la Skyrim – or rather an action-adventure à la God of War? And what about witcher vision: do we really still need such alternative vision modes?
