Bandai Namco Entertainment loves to adapt manga and as such, SAND LAND will have the rights to many projects for our greatest pleasure.
So, SANDLAND is a manga by Akira Toriyama, the author of dragon ball (only that) published in French in 2002 by Glénat in a single volume. Unlike other works by the artist, this one had the particularity of being drawn entirely by Akira Toriyama. Well, good news, it will also be the subject of several artistic projects, including adaptations.
SANDLAND, a beau program
Here’s what we discovered via the work’s official Twitter account:
The project SAND LAND will therefore be the birth of various partners coming together to create a variety of content and thus develop a full license. The project will initially begin with the co-production of an animated film by Bandai Namco Filmworks’ Sunrise Studio, Kamikaze Douga Co and ANIMA Inc.
Sand Land tells the story of Beelzebub, the prince of demons, accompanied by Thief and a former sheriff named Lao. In a futuristic world known as Sandland, the only river that fed the whole world has suddenly dried up and the only source of drinking water is owned by the king, who does not hesitate to charge exorbitant prices.
This so-called first project already has a trailer, which can also be found here (for Twitter allergy sufferers):
As you can see it doesn’t appear to be an animation-only adaptation as we can see the use of CGI a bit like in the film Dragon Ball Super: Superhero. Still, a good result given that the film’s return on release was obviously very good.
At the moment there is no date for the debut of this animation project.
