Nine years after its release, GTA 5 continues to soar. When gamers eagerly awaiting GTA 6 are completely fed up with the numerous releases, the game continues to sell in palettes.
Huge sales figures for GTA 5
It is official. There are now more copies of GTA 5 in circulation than the French, British and Belgians combined. On the occasion of its financial report for the past quarter, Take Two took stock of the sales figures for its cash cow. Since 2013, Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold over 170 million copies. The PS5 and Xbox series versions have also already sold 5 million copies, which is pretty impressive for another release.
To put these colossal numbers into perspective, England, France and Belgium together have a population of more than 146 million. That’s less than the number of copies of GTA 5 in circulation worldwide. In the meantime, Rockstar continues to line its pockets thanks to GTA Online, whose figures for the latest fiscal quarter have not been disclosed. The online component of the game will continue to contain content even in special weeks and new updates. Regardless, priority is given to GTA 6, and several projects have reportedly been canceled to focus efforts on developing the studio’s next hit.
