News culture There is a “sequel” to James Cameron’s film “Titanic” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet: It’s a disaster!
James Cameron’s 11 Oscar-winning masterpiece, Titanic, stands the test of time and continues to be considered one of the greatest films of all time. Although we know that there was an alternative ending, few know that there is a more or less official sequel.
A parody film
It is considered the largest boating accident of all time. James Cameron’s film Titanicis considered a monument of world cinema. Its romance and dramatic ending harmonize perfectly with the acting of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. If you haven’t seen or heard of this film, it’s still available on Disney+ and Netflix. But did you know that the film finally had a sequel?
In reality, this is not an official second film. Titanic: Odyssey 2012 (or Titanic II (derived from the original name) is a 2010 feature film produced by Asylum Films. If you don’t know the production company, they specialize in “mockbusters”. (Films that parody the great Hollywood classics). Titanic It was directed by Shane Van Dyke, the grandson of actor Dick Van Dyke, known for his role in Mary Poppins.
A very similar story
The film is set in 2012 on the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic. The entire story takes place on a ship called the Titanic II, which takes the opposite route of the deceased ship, from the United States to the United Kingdom. Fate will befall the passengers when they encounter an iceberg due to a tsunami caused by the melting of a glacier in Greenland. A second large wave eventually capsized the ship and most of the passengers drowned.
It is therefore an unofficial and, above all, parodic continuation of the Titanic. With a 15% recommendation on Rotten Tomatoes, the reviews aren’t necessarily good. But the most important thing is not included in Asylum films. In fact, this isn’t the first franchise the production company has caricatured. In 2020, Fight Star Wars came out with the codes of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. And here too, opinions are unanimous, with 20% recommendations on Rotten Tomatoes.
