Gaming News They’ve broken a 14-year-old record: these players are still playing online, even though it’s technically impossible!
It’s been almost a month since the servers of a legendary console generation closed. Although most players move on, a handful of users continue to stay online across different games and even manage to break records!
The shutdown of Nintendo servers for 3DS and Wii U consoles on April 8, 2024 should have meant the end of any ability to connect to console gaming online. However, seven passionate players refused to accept this reality and, against all expectations, kept their system online for 29 days.
These players have decided to extend their online gaming experience despite the official shutdown of the servers.

Undead games
The Resistance 7 can currently be found in several games: Pokémon XY, Mario Kart 7, Super Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicles X and Splatoon. In Splatoon, player Lcd101 shares on his X account what has been happening there since the beginning of April. He is currently stuck in the game’s capital city, where he is the only witness to new items in the various shops every day. Additionally, even though the servers were supposed to be closed and no game could be started, the game continued to change its maps and modes until April 30th. This date marked the final show of the Calamazones sisters, introducing the final changes for the next 10 years! The ability of its players to keep these titles online long after the servers shut down is a tribute to their passion for these games and their refusal to let the online community disappear.
Final honors that leave a mark!
The Nintendo 3DS and Wii U gaming community didn’t let these final moments pass without celebration. For example, a Super Mario Maker WiiU community, Team 0%, started a race to beat all of the game’s levels, even those deemed impossible.
