It’s no secret that Rockstar Games loves to hide secrets and references in their video games. So much so that we’ve been discovering things in GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 for years, and yet there are still players who don’t know about many of these curious secrets.
The reference that is the protagonist of this publication is not one of the most famous of Red Dead Redemption 2but it is sure to be very interesting for history lovers. It is located in the north-central Ambarino
There, Arthur finds the corpse of a woman in a smashed barrel and sketches the scene in both his journal and on the map. He gives her a description of it: “I found the remains of a poor idiot who tried to throw herself over a waterfall in a barrel. I found it interesting, but also sad. Her life was even more ridiculous than the one I had before.”
Even with my dying breath, I would warn anyone not to attempt the feat. I would rather stand in the mouth of a cannon, knowing I would be blown to pieces, than make another trip to the falls. – Annie Edson Taylor for the Press
Arthur’s description would surely have been very different had he met the real woman referenced in the scene: Annie Edson Taylor (1938-1921), an American adventurer who was the first to jump over Niagara Falls in a barrel and survive. She did so at the age of 63. She spent just over 20 minutes inside the barrel. Her feat not only inspired Rockstar Games and has been referenced in other works such as books, films, series and even musicals.
