News culture This director promises us nothing less than the best science fiction film of 2024: the images are magnificent
Coming out next year, this sci-fi film will surely be the greatest in its category. The trailer already blows us away.
The Dune saga has been alive for 58 years and is still planning to impress us soon. The latest adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel cycle achieved an honorable result with 12th place at the 2021 box office. This Denis Villeneuve film had an even better start than Blade Runner 2041
“There is something more alive in this film”
In fact, in an interview for diversityDenis Villeneuve describes the second Dune as follows:
For me this film is much better than the first (…) This one has something more lively. (…) I’m not saying the film is perfect, but I’m much happier with it. I can’t wait to share this with fans.
The director explains that in this second work he managed to achieve a greater intensity of emotions between the protagonists. It has to be said that the first feature film was, above all, a great introduction to the universe and required much more factual dialogue.
Stunning art direction
The trailer shows us some footage that shows the Fremen, an indigenous and nomadic people. The latter was not yet seen in the first part. They are filmed entirely in black and white, which is completely at odds with the beige tones of the sand that we so often see and created a real feeling of newness. Denis Villeneuve explains this original colorimetry by saying that the sun on Giedi Prime subtracts the color. It’s like the culture of this planet: boring, fascist, binary and lacking nuance. Plus, the special effects are spectacular, like this scene where three sandworms attack a handful of tiny humans. We can also praise the different lighting effects used to vary the nuances in the scenes, all shot in monochrome sand. We’ll have to wait until February 28, 2024 to discover Villeneuve’s wonderful work.
