WhatsApp will offer a new feature that has been in high demand from users for a long time. Enough to completely change your life. Especially if you have friends who are too talkative.
After a long wait and a year after its launch on iOS, WhatsApp is about to integrate voice message transcription feature for Android users. This new feature, already available in competing applications such as Google Messages and Telegram, marks a turning point for the world’s most used instant messaging.
WhatsApp finally offers this great new feature
In fact, since May 2023, iPhone users have benefited from this feature, which allows them to convert speech into text and thus better understand messages without having to listen to them. While this feature is available for Telegram, it is still limited to two transcriptions per week for non-premium users.
As reported thespandroid, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, 2.24.7.7, has revealed the impending arrival of this functionality through an APK analysis thanks to several meaningful lines of code. For example, the app needs to download an additional 150 MB of data to enable transcription. This uses the device’s speech recognition system to provide end-to-end encrypted transcriptions to ensure data protection.
Although this feature is under development and has not yet been activated for the general public, its future integration seems obvious under the Settings > Discussions tab, as is already the case on iOS. Voicemail transcription is a significant improvement for users who prefer reading to listening, or for users in environments where listening to a voicemail is not practical.
Although the official launch date for this feature on Android is still unknown, the anticipation is palpable. WhatsApp is catching up with its competitors and further improving the user experience by meeting the growing demand for more accessible and convenient communication. Some will say this is a bit late. We leave it up to you to judge this statement.
