One day in the future we will be so inundated by the metaversos that we will see them as one more tool of the day to day. However, currently their visual presentation is very poor, so the rejection they generate is obvious. Therefore, the bet to build the best possible versions must be Unreal Engine 5.
Epic Games’ powerful graphics engine has delivered impressive results since its launch, making us doubt reality completely. One of the best examples has been shared by the user 3Dystopia, who has recreated a small street in France with unusual fidelity.
We’re talking about a “super little metaverse” that 3Dystopia has devoted a lot of time to. Specifically 1,500 photos of 6,000 videos until we can recreate this alley with photogrammetry techniques. “It took me 10 days, but I spent almost half of it thinking and learning how to get a better rendering for this environment, since each environment is a new challenge for me,” explains its creator.
3Dystopia believes that “this is what the metaverse should look like in a few years, if a company decides to work on that challenge.” It is true that it would be fantastic to see results with a great team behind it, but he himself admits that “this 3D scan was not easy, I spent many hours cleaning all the dirty surfaces on the top because I only took photos from the ground and I had to rebuild all the details of the roof”.
The truth is that we already have other pretty crazy versions of how Unreal Engine 5 has potential to spare to leave us with our mouths open. A hyper-realistic FPS and a walk in the woods from The Blair Witch Project are great examples of this.
