The latest major Starfield update has fulfilled several of the promises that Bethesda made to us after the launch of the video game in September 2023. Let’s admit, regardless of whether we liked it or not, that its landing on Xbox Series X/S and PC was not so spectacular as we expected in general terms. In fact, his presence at The Game Awards was quite tenuous.
Bethesda has not ceased in its efforts to improve the experience and prepare it for the arrival of its first major expansion, called Broken Space. Some updates have been interesting, but the most recent one has managed to separate me from the battlefields of Helldivers 2 and Appalachia of Fallout 76.
Return to the Starfield universe
Update 1.11.36, known as the May update, has fixed one of the biggest drawbacks that I mentioned in my review: performance. That Starfield launching at 30 fps on Xbox Series
The 60 fps and the performance mode are the main reason for my return to the universe of Starfield. While it still has major scratches in the main cities, with New Atlantic standing out, it really feels like a renewed experience. So much so, that I have left everything behind to start a New Game+ and I am enjoying it very much.
On a personal level I only have good words for Bethesda, but here I have to give them a slap on the wrist, the kind that leaves you red and hot for a while: This is how it should have been launched! Starfield, damn! If then it was already obvious that Starfield had a few more months left in the oven, now it is undeniable.
Another reason I decided to start a New Game+ is that you can now change the basic characteristics of your character before starting, from physical appearance to attributes and skills. Several friends have taken advantage of this new function to initially ally themselves with one of the factions, but in my case I have only changed one: Family Attachment for Empathy, which increases combat efficiency when you get along with your partner and adds dialogue options. Since my character is a charismatic gunslinger, I think I got it right.
I have seen that the universe of Starfield It changes when you do NG+ and you can find very crazy things, but I must have been unlucky because everything is more or less the same as in the initial game. The only thing I am clear about for this game is that I am not going to join the Crimson Fleet. I loved his story, but I want to explore other arcs. As for the romance with Andreja… I’m having a hard time not repeating it. Maybe in the next NG+, facing Espacio Quebrado.

I also really liked the two remaining new features: the improved surface maps and the possibility of building inside the ships as in land bases. We are going in parts because I have very ambitious plans and I don’t want to mix up sections. As for the improved maps, they are simply incredible because they are updated in real time (you see the ships arrive, for example) and I can only say the same as with the framerate: it should have been there from day one.
Ship customization is the topic that will bother me for many hours. I lost my super destroyer (Baluarte) when doing NG+, so I’m going to have to save a lot of credits to buy back the base ship and reequip it. Not a ship in the known universe could handle it. And it was big enough to spend hours editing.

My goal is to get something similar to what I have in Fallout 76: personal room, common areas with tables and armchairs, an armory-laboratory and finally a room to display weapons and space suits. I don’t remember how many crew spaces I had before I lost her, but I had Vasco, Andreja, Barret and Sarah. In any case, now I have no reason to limit the cabins to practical areas. I can build a destroyer that serves as a mobile base. Again, Bethesda, this should have been during launch.
If the improvements catch your attention, I recommend you return because they are really worth it. Plus, it’s a good time to give it a first try. Bethesda has already confirmed the ground vehicles and the expansion Broken Space It’s almost around the corner. I will be playing when this is published and I recommend you follow my steps.
