A new technique in Street Fighter VI was discovered and shared online that essentially eliminates the threat of any incoming throws, no matter what character you’re playing as or against. It has been investigated by Capcom and banned from most upcoming games.
Posted online by Florida Twitter user Chinatown, a mysterious technological monster who appeared to be working on the game in his lab before posting their findings online. Instead of saving the technology for the Capcom Cup, a $1,000,000 first-place tournament, they’re willing to share their knowledge with the masses. A true hero.
What makes this technology game-changing is that it allows you to defend against throws with essentially no risk. Let’s say you get knocked out. When you get back on your feet, your opponent is walking up and preparing to hit you with some kind of attack or throw. If they throw you, a simple combination of button inputs found in Chinatown will get you out of the throw. If they attack you, you block the attack.
By safely eliminating the threat of throwing and general attacks, the only remaining options that can threaten your defense are overhead attacks, which break your block if you crouch, or dashes. Both situations create reactions, so the focused player becomes a shell that cannot be easily opened. If your character has them, you can also order them to be grabbed, but this is also a super insecure option for any would-be attacker, and you can see how completely broken it is!
As you can imagine, there was a lot of shock among Street Fighter VI’s online player base. But beyond that, there’s admiration for the only laboratory monster to demonstrate this tricky technology to the world. “Trust the guy who has your credit card info, he’ll do the right thing every time” one user wrotefighting players and influencers at the same time LordKnight summarizes his thoughts: “That’s literally the definition of saving that shit for the nation, they snitched. True heroes (tribute emoji)”
With Capcom now aware of the technology, and the entire community taking advantage of it wherever possible, it shows the shear rate at which game-breaking technology is discovered, propagated, and resolved in this modern era of patches – cultural and constant renew. We contacted Chinatown for further information and they responded kindly.
First, it’s not a technology they’ve been sitting on for years. They discovered this last night and quickly uploaded their findings to Twitter. Chinatown had the following thoughts on the reaction online: “I think this is hilarious, I love the ‘he just dropped a million’ reaction. Plus, I’m glad Capcom found it so quickly, great devs !”
According to Chinatown, they simply don’t want to keep the technology to themselves. They just believed it was an interesting technology that could “break the meta,” so they posted it first on the Discord server hosted by fighting game framework data guru Hatson, and then shared it with the world. They don’t regret the decision: “Maybe I should have saved it for a million, but I know I’m not going to really beat the top players with this technology alone.”
Finally, he inserts the Street Fighter VI tribe they belong to: Diccrat. Now, Chinatown is back in the labs and worlds of Street Fighter VI, and they’re satisfied that Street Fighter VI has been shaken up for its contribution to the ever-growing cutting-edge.
You know the one thing that Street Fighter VI players are really crazy about? foot! At least that’s how it looks in terms of the popular clubs in the game.
