Sony changes its tune and makes a great announcement for its PSVR2. News that could change the future of the PS5 virtual reality headset.
The PSVR2 has been available since February 23, 2023. A PS5 VR headset exclusively dedicated to Sony’s latest console, which marked a milestone in terms of technological advances. But also at the level of launch games, much more numerous and with big brands like Resident Evil Village, horizon call of the mountain, Gran Turismo 7… A new high-tech toy coveted by virtual reality enthusiasts. Except for a few buyers who were very interested but didn’t crack for a reason. That brake just disappeared.
PSVR2 coming soon on Amazon, Fnac, Cdiscount…
Some are reluctant to buy the PSVR2 because the price is understandable for the product, while others have postponed their purchase for another reason. Which ? So far, Sony has reserved the sale of its PSVR 2 only for the PlayStation Direct Store. And that raises a number of issues, starting with price.
By preventing its PS5 VR headset from being sold on other retail sites, the manufacturer is restricting gamers. Promotional offers such as credit on a loyalty card cannot be used. It is also impossible to pay in installments and of course the price is completely fixed. We remember that the PlayStation VR 2 is shown at 599 dollars for the pack without a game but with two Sense Controllers, or 649 dollars with Horizon Call of the Mountain.
In short, an obstacle that jumps there PSVR2 will be available in regular stores in the coming days. The details and the list of resellers are not given here, but it should be very classic. So expect you can get it at Amazon, Fnac, Cdiscount. But also, and given the twist of the tweet, about physical stores such as supermarkets (Carrefour, Leclerc…) and probably independent stores that will also request it. A development that could lead to the introduction of the helmet.

It is clear that PSVR2 deployment is a necessity for its launch absolutely everywhere. Such a motivated change of direction to avoid a complete flop of the device? In fact, the company IDC sounded the alarm when the PS VR 2 was first sold.
However, and we had returned to the subject in detail in a separate article, this analysis was perhaps a bit hasty or even wrong. On the other hand, if the sales curve follows the same trajectory as PSVR, this will not be a failure for Sony, but a commercial success. But we won’t know for a couple of months, in the absence of a working crystal ball. Especially since selling to other resellers was not yet open in the equation.
While waiting to see the issue more clearly, current PSVR2 owners will want to load up their headphones with new games. Any announcements to come during the rumored grand State of Play? Why not. Corridor rumors suggest it’s going to be an XXL event with PlayStation 5 exclusives. Aside from new PS5 virtual reality headset features, we could have news about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or Silent Hill 2 Remake. We also expect to see Final Fantasy 16 again.
