There are many things in which One Piece stands out above most mangas and animes, and something undeniable in the work is the unique characterization that Eiichiro Oda has when designing his characters. However, there is a very common criticism when talking about this area: female figures.
Many agree that the mangaka does not know how to draw the female characters of One Piece in any other way, but the reality about this is very clear: Oda uses the same structure for all the women who appear throughout the entire manga, and is summarized in an “X” and three circles
Thanks to the Twitter account expert in One Piece Sandmanwe have been able to see a talk that Oda himself had about this structure in female characters:
“How do you draw a sexy female character? I suggest you think of a woman’s proportions as ‘three circles, one X’. I only draw that body type, which is why I get a lot of complaint postcards from my female audience. Let’s stay strong and let’s live life.”
Of course, it is a rather curious way of creating a female character, but that does not mean that the criticism towards the author by readers for almost exclusively creating this type of figures in One Piece
In the end, in the male characters we can see a huge variety of bodies, but when we look at the opposite gender, we have very rarely seen Oda take risks with forms different from what is established, either for fear of rejection or for not directly making an effort to create new types of models.
