Ubisoft is known to be working on a remake of the stealth action classic Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell – and now there are finally fresh impressions and info bits. Among other things, several artworks were shown that are intended to reveal the new style.
Apart from the fact that Ubisoft has announced a remake of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, little has been said about the new version of the stealth action classic. This is certainly also due to the fact that the development work is still in an early production and prototype phase.
However, to mark the 20th anniversary of the franchise, the developer has now released a new video with creative director Chris Auty. Not only is there a look back, but also into the future. In short: At least some bits of information and impressions about the remake have now been launched.
According to Auty, the team is taking a close look at the plot, the characters and the story as a whole. There will be some improvements here, in part because some “things haven’t necessarily aged well,” according to Auty. It was previously known that there will be story adjustments due to the development since the release of the original in order to make the remake more modern. Nevertheless, the creative director also promises that “the core of the story and the core of the overall gaming experience will remain the same as in the original game”.
Meanwhile, Christian Carriere, the technical director, highlighted the technical improvements in the remake. Especially when it comes to AI, you want to make significant progress here, which will be evident in opponent behavior. A Special Forces soldier will appear noticeably more trained and professional than, for example, an ordinary security guard. You will recognize this in the course of the game, for example, by how the characters mentioned enter different rooms.
According to senior game designer Andy Schmoll, these improvements in artificial intelligence are intended to take the cat-and-mouse gameplay between protagonist Sam and his opponents to a new level. Thanks to features such as ray tracing, realistic lighting effects and a significantly better audio simulation, the whole thing will then also be able to draw on a significantly improved audiovisual presentation.
You can take a look at the promised artworks as well as the entire video in the context of this message. It will remain so for the time being, because the team now wants to withdraw for some time and not comment further on the remake. Instead, the focus for the moment is on further development work.
