Creative Assembly has had to put up with a lot of shitstorm over the last few days, mainly due to the value for money of the Warhammer DLCs and Total War: Pharaoh. Now the developers have commented on this.
If players don’t get enough value for their money, things can get uncomfortable. Developer Creative Assembly had to painfully discover this with regard to the Total War series.
One of the sticking points was the Shadows of Change DLC for Total War: Warhammer III, as it sold for the same price as one of the full army expansions, despite its value being more in line with a faction expansion. The result: negative user reviews and toxic comments, including insults to developers. The latter is of course unacceptable, but Roger Collum, Vice President at Creative Assembly, has one Statement released with a detailed apology.
That’s not all, Collum describes a series of measures to make amends. The Shadows of Change DLC will receive an extensive and free update. The studio wants to comment on the content in the new year, and the update itself is scheduled to be installed in February 2024. The update should then become an integral part of the DLC for later buyers.
However, this also means that the date of the next DLC, Thrones of Decay, has been pushed back. Instead of in winter, this DLC is now scheduled to appear in April 2024. The reason is, on the one hand, the update of the previous DLC, and on the other hand, Thrones of Decay is to be revised so that its scope meets the expectations of the players. After the release of Thrones of Decay, there will be information about what additional content is planned for Total War: Warhammer III. What is certain is that the game’s update frequency should continue to be approximately every two weeks.
There is also information about Total War: Pharaoh. The game was criticized primarily due to its full price, which does not correspond to the scope. Steam buyers can now expect to automatically receive a partial refund of the purchase price in the next few days. The price of the game was reduced to 39.99 dollars at the same time. Deluxe and Dynasty Editions have been removed from stores.
And more good news: to make up for it, the game’s first paid DLC is now being released free of charge for all owners of the game. More detailed information about what the DLC, which is scheduled to appear in early 2024, includes and what will happen next with Pharaoh will follow in the foreseeable future.
The statement ends with another apology, wishes for the holidays and the statement: “If we make mistakes in this next part of our journey, we will work hard to move faster to fix them, iterating as we emerge from them learning in moments, and always taking steps in the right direction. We hope that you will be patient with us as we regain our footing, and we hope that in the coming months we will convince you not only with words but also with actions can.”
