Hard to believe, but true: Tropico has been around for a full 20 years. Reason enough for publisher Kalypso Media to celebrate properly and throw out some goodies.
On April 21, 2001 the first Tropico appeared, at that time still from Pop Top Games under the publisher flag of Gathering of Developers. Since then you have been able to take on the role of El Presidente in six games and take over the fate of a banana republic in the form of a construction and economic simulation.
Kalypso Media has been the publisher behind the title since the third part in 2008. The series was initially developed by Haemimont Games, until the German studio Limbic Entertainment launched the sixth and final part, which was released in 2019 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
To celebrate the anniversary, El Presidente has ordered new free content for Tropico 6, including a piñata llama hunt, new in-game decorations, fireworks and of course a sparkling golden palace that players call home as El Presidente or La Presidenta can. The in-game Tropico 6 Celebration begins today and will be available through May 5th.
At the same time, there is a sales campaign for the entire series, with juicy discounts in the Kalypso Store, on Steam and in the PlayStation and Xbox One stores.
In the coming weeks, Kalypso Media will start the celebrations with today’s start of the Kalypso-Blogs 2.0 continue. Here, inclined readers will find information and exciting stories about the past and present of the Tropico series as well as articles on the 15th anniversary of Kalypso Media itself. Last but not least, there is a special Tropico 6 – Caribbean Skies livestream this evening at 19 : 00 p.m. CEST on the YouTube-Kanal des Publishers.
