Finding channels is one of the more complicated steps in setting up a new Smart TV. But even with TVs that you have been using for a long time, some or all of the channels can suddenly disappear.
There can be various reasons why your television cannot find any channels. They are also related to how you receive your television signal. In the following, we take a look at the most common causes of missing transmitters and provide tips for solving problems.
Check TV connections
First you should check that all cables are properly connected. This applies on the one hand to the antenna cable and on the other hand to the connection cable of the connected satellite receiver, if you use one.
Is the cable properly seated? Is it free from cracks? Are there any problems with the connection sockets? A common problem is a broken or bent wire on the antenna cable. The only thing that helps is buying a replacement cable.
Reorienting the satellite dish can also fix the problem. After all, it must be correctly aligned to receive broadcasts. If you’ve already used another TV that found the channels without any problems, the alignment of the dish shouldn’t be the problem.
We explain the most important adapters for televisions
This is how you connect old consoles and DVD players
These TV adapters are the ideal solution for connecting old consoles such as the Wii, headphones, DVD players, WiFi sources and other devices to the TV.
Start station search
If the cause is neither with the connections nor with the satellite dish, there may be problems with the channel search on your TV. Fortunately, scanning for channels on today’s smart TVs is far less complicated than it was a few years ago.
The following steps may vary slightly depending on the model and manufacturer of your TV. In principle, however, the procedure remains similar for current devices.
Switch on the television and use the remote control to go to the main menu. Here you should be able to start the channel search directly, the function may be hidden in a submenu.
Either way, the station search function is indicated by various manufacturers using the following terms, among others:
Channel search with various manufacturers
- Station search
- Sender
- Installation
- Antenna
- Antenna settings
- Facility
- etc.
You have the choice between manual and automatic station search. First try the automatic station search. After a few minutes your television should inform you about the programs it has found.
If the manual station search does not bring any or only incomplete results (some stations are missing), you can still try a manual station search. Here you control the corresponding frequency information of the stations that you want to add.
Since the manual search varies greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer, we recommend that you take a look at the instructions for your television set before starting it. Please note that the manual station search is only suitable for adding individual programs.
Update and reset to factory settings
If the channel search did not bring the desired result either, you should check whether there are updates / updates for the television that can be installed. Smart TVs usually inform you automatically about such updates.
Otherwise, you can also install them later in the settings of your television. Sometimes an update that has not been carried out can be the reason for missing channels, which is why you should always update your TV set promptly.
HDMI Multi-Konverter
USB, VGA, DisplayPort to HDMI with one box
If you want to convert USB, VGA and DisplayPort to HDMI, an HDMI multi-converter is the ideal solution. The box is compatible with a wide variety of connections.
If all else fails, the last remaining solution is to reset the TV. You also select the function for resetting to factory settings via the main menu. You may have to search through some submenus for the function.
Resetting to factory settings deletes all data on your TV, including all of your individual settings. Therefore this should always be the last step in the search for a station.
By the way, you don’t necessarily need TV channels to enjoy series and films on your Smart TV. Thanks to an internet connection in combination with streaming services, apps and the like, Smart TVs offer plenty of other options apart from well-known TV channels such as ARD, ZDF, RTL or ProSieben.
